Our School

Woodroffe Ave PS

We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Woodroffe Avenue Public School is an Early French Immersion Centre located in a well-established neighbourhood opposite the Carlingwood Public Library. Our catchment area ranges from near Bayshore in the west, to Sherbourne Avenue in the east, and between the Ottawa River and the Highway 417. Our English partner schools are Severn PS, Regina PS, D. Roy Kennedy PS and Pinecrest PS. We foster excellence in a safe and caring environment. We are proud of our emphasis on French language acquisition and encourage students to speak in French whenever possible.

The school mascot is the Humpback Whale which symbolizes commitment to environmental issues. In 1991 we adopted the Humpback Whales, Salt and her son Crystal. We practice sound environmental choices and recycle resources wherever possible.

Mission Statement

Parents and staff work together at Woodroffe Avenue Public School to ensure a safe climate in which students experience challenge, develop skills, and foster life-long learning. It is in this spirit of co-operation that we encourage our students to work hard, play well, and accept responsibility both as individuals and as members of society. Our school motto RRSP reminds students of Respect, Responsibility, Safety and Perseverance.

Facilities and Resources

Woodroffe Avenue Public School is a multi-storey building with stair-access to the upper levels. This year the school has 9 portables on-site, though not all are required for daily classroom use. We have two gymnasiums, including one with a stage, and a well-equipped library. On the ground level, we have one washroom designed for enhanced accessibility.

Our school has a mobile computer station which can be moved between classrooms on the lower level, instead of having one room designated as a computer lab. We have one interactive Smartboard called an iRover.

Our large, enclosed playground is equipped with three separate play structures for Kindergarten, Primary and Junior Divisions.
